# 1 - SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY
Dear Dr. Schutte:

I wanted to take a moment and share with you my evaluation of my chiropractic treatment thus far.  As you know, I presented to you with complaints of chronic headache and a popping sensation in my neck.  I had progressively worsening headaches of a 6 month interval.  These headaches were unrelenting and were causing substantial debility.  I had tried essentially every medicine available, including narcotics, for this pain without successful resolution.  The pain had gotten so severe that there was also concern that my original head and neck cancer had recurred; thankfully, scans revealed no recurrence.

On presentation to you, I had a thorough examination and x-rays of my cervical spine.  These revealed, alignment abnormalities within the spine.  You initiated spinal manipulation and a series of exercises.  This therapy improved my condition significantly but the pain was not resolved.  You then suggested decompression therapy.  I am delighted to report that after the first decompression therapy, my headaches remarkably improved and continued to improve further with each successive treatment.  I am now at a point where headache is a very rare occurrence.  I am convinced that the decompression therapy was a major factor in my recovery.

I write to you so that you may share my story with other patients who may be considering decompression therapy.  Although nothing can replace randomized trials for the evaluation of efficacy of treatments, anecdotal reports such as mine can be helpful.  It is unlikely that randomized trials would be conducted for
decompressive
therapy due to financial constraints.  I would strongly encourage patients to consider decompression as on of their therapeutic options.

Please feel free to share this letter with patients who may benefit.  Reassure them that I have not been compensated in any fashion for my opinion.  I must also state that having been trained exclusively in conventional western medicine (Internal Medicine, Hematology, Oncology) I was skeptical of chiropractic care and other alternative modalities.  I have, through my experience with your care, reversed that unfounded opinion and believe that chiropractic medicine may offer many patients relief that was previously unknown to them.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Charles R. Tweedy, M.D.

#2 - SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY
I have two compression fractures in my spine and had constant and significant pain in my upper and lower back and left leg for the past 2 1/2 years.  My pain woke me up at night and made it difficult to get out of bed in the morning.  I tried physical therapy for about one year with virtually no improvement.  I had never been to a Chiropractor before, but my frustration with my lack of progress led me to seek alternative treatment.
I saw Dr. Schutte for about one year of traditional chiropractic care.  I would feel better for a day or two after each treatment, but by my next appointment (usually 1 week), I would be back where I started.  It was better than the physical therapy I was doing before, but I was never 'pain-free'.
Dr. Schutte thought I would be a good candidate for spinal decompression therapy, but I was reluctant - mainly because of the cost.  I finally decided to try it, knowing that even though there was no guarantee, if it did work, it would be worth every penny.
I began spinal decompression therapy in July 2009, and much to my surprise (and Dr. Schutte's) I noticed improvement after the first treatment.  he told me that was unusual, but I was very excited and pleased.  I regressed some when we started the isometric exercises, so he adjusted the program to suit my needs.  I have completed the treatments and am now doing a series of exercised to reactivate and strengthen the muscles along my spine.
As a result of the spinal decompression therapy, I have mostly "good days".  I sleep well and can get out of bed without even thinking about it.  I'm completely pain-free about half of the time.  Even my worst days now are better than my best days before the treatment.
I know the results are different for everyone, but I am very happy I decided to have spinal decompression therapy and am looking forward to leading a much more active - and normal - life.
Thank you Dr. Schutte!
